When planning a vacation to Los Angeles, the options for accommodations are endless from the iconic Hollywood Hills to the classic California beach towns. Santa Monica stands out as one of the most iconic places and is my favorite place to recommend for a stay. When it comes to luxury in Santa Monica, the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows is easily one of the best properties you can book. Here’s everything you need to know before planning your stay at this coastal gem.

Booking Your Stay
To maximize value and perks, it’s always best to book directly with the hotel. The Fairmont is part of the Accor Group, a global luxury brand that isn't as big in the U.S. like Marriott or Hilton so it is best to book through a premium travel Credit Card program.
The American Express Platinum Card, is one of my favorite premium Travel Credit Cards to recommend. You can unlock valuable perks by booking through the Fine Hotels + Resorts program, including:
- 5x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent
- Guaranteed 4 PM check-out
- Daily breakfast for two
- $100 property credit (may apply to spa, dining, or other amenities)
- Early check-in and potential room upgrades (subject to availability)
These benefits can elevate your stay from great to extraordinary — and the room upgrades, in particular, are a game-changer.
Location
The Fairmont Miramar is located in the heart of Downtown Santa Monica on Ocean Avenue, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and easy access to Santa Monica’s top attractions. You’re just steps from:
Santa Monica Pier – A classic California landmark
Third Street Promenade – A vibrant hub for shopping and dining
Santa Monica Beach – Perfect for a relaxed day by the water
For a more laid-back, local vibe, head to Montana Avenue or Main Street, where you’ll find high-end boutiques, charming cafés, and local gems.
The hotel is a 25-minute drive from LAX and conveniently located near the Pacific Coast Highway and 10 Freeway — making it ideal for exploring the California coast.
The Property
Spread across five lush acres in the heart of Santa Monica, the Fairmont Miramar feels like you’re in a secluded area compared to a downtown area.
As you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by a massive, 100-year-old fig tree at the entrance and beautiful landscaped entranceway. The property balances timeless sophistication and elegance that you can expect from a Fairmont combined with a relaxed California beach vibe.

Property Features:
A beautifully landscaped outdoor pool surrounded by palm trees and tropical gardens
Private bungalows offering a peaceful retreat from the busy city
Easy beach access for a classic LA beach day
Whether you’re relaxing by the pool or strolling down to the pier, the Fairmont offers a perfect balance of relaxation and exploration.

The Fairmont Miramar offers a variety of luxurious rooms and suites, many with ocean-facing balconies that provide panoramic views of the Pacific.

Bungalows
For an elevated experience, book one of the private bungalows tucked away in the tropical gardens. These multi-level retreats blend mid-century style with modern comfort, creating a private oasis just steps from the pool.

Dining
Dining at the Fairmont Miramar is more than just a meal — it’s an experience.
FIG
The hotel’s signature restaurant, FIG, is a local favorite known for its farm-to-table menu featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients from nearby farmers’ markets. Don’t miss “Fig at Five” — one of the best happy hours in the city.
The Bungalow
For a more relaxed, beachside vibe, head to The Bungalow. This casual lounge is popular with locals and visitors alike for its laid-back atmosphere, creative cocktails, and sunset views.
Dogtown Coffee
Start your day with a visit to Dogtown Coffee for grab-and-go options and specialty drinks. (Pro tip: Try the breakfast burrito — it’s a favorite!)
Soko
For a more intimate experience, book a table at Soko, a small sushi bar offering a curated menu of fresh, hand-crafted sushi. Reservations are highly recommended due to its limited seating.
Pro Tips
Santa Monica enjoys mild winters and beautiful spring and summer weather. However, be aware of May Gray and June Gloom when the coastal marine layer often brings in cloudy mornings and colder temperatures. Don’t be alarmed, the weather will clear up by midday. September is one of the best times to visit as the crowds have dwindled and the temperatures are some of the warmest of the year.
Final Thoughts
The Fairmont Miramar delivers an effortlessly luxurious experience. From the ocean views and top-tier dining to the personalized service and attention to detail, every element feels curated and intentional. Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a solo retreat, or a family adventure, the Fairmont Miramar is the perfect place to stay when planning a trip to Los Angeles.
